De La Salle
De La Salle’s father died from AIDS and at the time he was born his mother was seriously ill with the disease. Unable to cope with caring for him, she kept him in a cardboard box for the first few months of his life, before he was rescued by a social worker from SJDT and brought to our orphanage. After 3 years in our sponsorship program, De La Salle has grown into a healthy and intelligent boy, top of his class at pre-school.
Infanta
Infanta was born into a very poor family. Her mother died from tetnus after the delivery of her second child and her father ran away abandoning both children. Infanta’s extended family were too poor to care for her, and brought her to our orphanage. A beautiful and happy child, Infanta is one of the most talented traditional dancers in the group.
Jeevitha
Jeevitha is one of six young girls in the care of St Joseph’s Development Trust who are survivors of female infanticide attempts. Jeevitha’s parents attempted to murder her by throwing her into a fire. She was rescued by local villagers who took her to a nearby hospital. An elderly woman who was recovering in the same ward adopted Jeevitha and raised her for several years before she became too ill to continue to support her. She brought Jeevitha to Girls Village where she has been in our care ever since. |
